{"id":18032,"date":"2026-08-06T12:57:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T10:57:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cdi.fau.de\/?page_id=18032"},"modified":"2026-08-06T12:57:36","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T10:57:36","slug":"wisski-project-collaborations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.cdi.fau.de\/en\/services\/wisski-project-collaborations\/","title":{"rendered":"Project collaborations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>FAU CDI as a Project Partner for FAIR Data Management from the Beginning<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-collapsibles \"><div class=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-collapse \"><div class=\"accordion-group \"><h2 class=\"accordion-heading\"><button class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-name=\"nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects\" data-href=\"#nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects\" type=\"button\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects-section\" id=\"nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects\" data-media-accordion-image-id=\"0\" data-media-accordion-image-url=\"\" data-media-accordion-image-alt=\"\" data-media-accordion-image-caption=\"\">NFDI4Objects (2023-2028) &#8211; Research Data Infrastructure for Material Objects<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects-section\" class=\"accordion-body \" aria-labelledby=\"nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects\" role=\"region\" name=\"nfdi4objects-2023-2028-research-data-infrastructure-for-material-objects\"><div class=\"accordion-inner clearfix\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We support researchers in management, analysis, and publication of research data on material objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Affiliated as a participant in Task Area (TA) 6 &#8220;Qualification, Integration, Harmonisation,&#8221; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdi.fau.de\/\">FAU Competence Center Research Data and Information<\/a> at FAU Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg works closely with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.klassik-stiftung.de\/\">Klassik Stiftung Weimar <\/a>to develop an integrated knowledge base about objects. Based on existing models and standards, a <a href=\"https:\/\/cidoc-crm.org\/\">CIDOC CRM<\/a>-based data model is developed to describe and represent object biographies. The data model for object biographies is tested in a <a href=\"https:\/\/nfdi4objects.wisski.data.fau.de\/\">WissKI instance<\/a> using <a href=\"https:\/\/nfdi4objects.wisski.data.fau.de\/use_cases\">use cases<\/a>, including the so-called iron lung of Friedrich Albert von Zenkers, whose biography is reconstructed in close collaboration with the FAU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.anatomie.med.fau.de\/\">Institute of Anatomy<\/a>, or the Behaim Globe of 1492, the oldest surviving globe, which is currently housed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gnm.de\/\">German Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg<\/a>. Further object biographies are being developed in collaboration with provenance researchers, collection and subject-area experts across Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfdi4objects.net\/\">NFDI4Objects <\/a>is a consortium of leading research institutions, museums, archives, and universities in the field of material culture and object research. Together we work to build a sustainable research data infrastructure for archaeology and object-based sciences. The interdisciplinary team of scientists, developers, and data experts develops standards, tools, and services for research data management\u2014from field data collection to long-term archiving and reuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This research environment is based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/wiss-ki.eu\/\">WissKI <\/a>software and serves to implement and test the viability of use cases. The templates for the two knowledge graphs and the underlying Objects Ontology are regularly published on <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/nfdi4objects\/n4o-ontology\">GitHub <\/a>in the current development state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Duration: 2023\u20132028<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funding: DFG<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-rrze-elements-collapse \"><div class=\"accordion-group \"><h2 class=\"accordion-heading\"><button class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-name=\"soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026\" data-href=\"#soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026\" type=\"button\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026-section\" id=\"soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026\" data-media-accordion-image-id=\"0\" data-media-accordion-image-url=\"\" data-media-accordion-image-alt=\"\" data-media-accordion-image-caption=\"\">SODa &#8211; Collections, Objects, and Data Literacy (2023-2026)<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026-section\" class=\"accordion-body \" aria-labelledby=\"soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026\" role=\"region\" name=\"soda-collections-objects-and-data-literacy-2023-2026\"><div class=\"accordion-inner clearfix\">\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SODa Collaborative Project Develops and Teaches Data Literacy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Academic collections at colleges and universities are vital infrastructures for research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. With over 1,200 collections spanning nearly all academic disciplines, Germany\u2019s higher education landscape possesses a unique knowledge resource and a significant data repository with enormous potential for both current and future research questions. Furthermore, these collections preserve an important cultural and scientific heritage, featuring holdings that are often unique, exemplary, and exceptional. The German Science Council has emphasized their extraordinary significance for science and strongly urged that they be expanded as research infrastructures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the diverse potential of scientific collections can only be fully realized if the resources and opportunities for digitization are optimally utilized. SODa imparts the <a href=\"https:\/\/sammlungen.io\/datenkompetenzen\">data competencies<\/a> necessary and useful for research in and with scientific collections and continues to develop these competencies in a transdisciplinary and practice-oriented manner. The Data Competency Center facilitates the exploration, discussion, and further development of standards, best practices, and new methods in collection-related research data management, research data analysis, evaluation, and utilization, as well as data-based collection and object research. At the same time, however, the history of the research institution and the collection is inextricably linked to the history of colonialism. The project <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museumfuernaturkunde.berlin\/de\/forschung\/virtueller-zugang-zu-fossil-und-archivmaterial-der-deutschen-tendaguru-expedition-1909\">\u201cResearch and Responsibility: Virtual Access to Integrated Fossil and Archival Material from the German Tendaguru Expedition (1909\u20131913)\u201d<\/a> is part of the museum\u2019s efforts to achieve transparency and accessibility regarding collections from colonial contexts and to develop international collaborations with partners in the regions of origin of the objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is to build a contextualized digital collection\u2014<strong>the Tendaguru Digital Archive<\/strong>\u2014by consolidating digital content (digital object models, data, images and documents, archival material, findings, and publications) from the GTE into a single data platform. The data platform will be accessible to researchers globally and across disciplines and will comply with the <a href=\"https:\/\/op.europa.eu\/en\/publication-detail\/-\/publication\/7769a148-f1f6-11e8-9982-01aa75ed71a1\/language-en\">FAIR <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gida-global.org\/care\">CARE <\/a>data principles.
